Elevated homocysteine concentration is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The increase of its concentration can cause vascular injury, leading to multiple vascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular disease and venous thrombosis. The local thrombosis of the disease is gradually replaced by fibrous tissue, and there are pathological changes similar to atherosclerosis such as smooth muscle hyperplasia. Especially for patients with hypertension, the Chinese guidelines for the prevention and treatment of hypertension (2018 Revision) recommends that patients choose blood homocysteine test.
